Company Description:

Lithgow Veterinary Hospital is an established mixed practice in the beautiful Blue Mountains of NSW.

We have an experienced mixed animal vet a team of six highly trained nursing staff. We pride ourselves on providing outstanding patient care, and practice high standards of medicine, surgery dentistry.

We are a true mixed practice, with the majority of the caseload consisting of dogs, cats and pleasure horses. We also see farm animals (cows, goats, alpacas and sheep), along with pocket pets and wildlife. We don't do a lot of equine performance racing work, or equine/bovine reproductive work. We have a keen interest in equine podiatry, nutrition and we have a progressive approach in our treatment of laminitis. The vast majority of our equine work is well loved ponies and pleasure horses who are engaged in preventative medicine.

Our clinic is extremely conscientious about our patients which is why we are actively working towards a certified cat friendly clinic, with plans to pursue a fear-free dog clinic as well. We thrive knowing that the feeling between us and our patients is one of mutual love and understanding. (Well, most of the time. We're looking at you, cranky blocked cat!)

We have a great range of diagnostics available including digital radiography, intra-oral dental radiography, ultrasound, Doppler blood pressure monitoring, and in house Idexx blood analyzer. We pride ourselves on keeping our equipment and our staff up-to-date. We also have a portable equine crush (PortaSafe Stocks) and Powerfloat for Equine Dentistry, and it's a great excuse to get outside and enjoy spectacular views of the area on the job. It's an amatuer photographer's delight! If you are interested in developing your equine dentistry skills, we are the clinic for you! Our vets have done extensive study with Equine Veterinary and Dental Services and we often liaise with equine dental specialist Dr Shannon Lee.

We are a new-graduate friendly practice with very low staff turnover and great support for new graduates from our experienced vets, in and out of hours. Some support also comes in the form of caffeine from our Friday morning coffee runs! Continuing education and special interests are encouraged and supported and we have practice CVE membership and VIN access.

Clinic hours are 8.30am – 6pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 12pm on Saturdays. We provide an after hours service to current clients, with the on-call duties shared among the veterinarians. A practice vehicle and phone are supplied for after hours use. There's also an unspoken rule that the on-call veterinarian gets to take home the left over pizza. Score!

We aren't afraid to refer those complex cases to ensure our patients get the best possible care. We often refer our small animal cases to SASH, our orthopaedic surgeries to David Lidbetter and Equine cases to Agnes Banks or Central West Equine. We also have a visiting specialist surgeon when required and an eye specialist from Eye Clinic for Animals Australia visits every month.

Lithgow is a vibrant, regional town on the western edge of the Blue Mountains. It has a wonderful community spirit, with festivals and markets and celebrations happening all throughout the year.
The area is a paradise for those who the love the outdoors, and is surrounded by world heritage listed national parks for bushwalking, rock climbing, canyoning, water skiing and fishing. If you are a horse rider, there is an abundance of gorgeous trails in the area to explore. We can even lend you a horse! Lithgow is conveniently located only 2 hours from Sydney, and an easy 90 minutes drive from the wine regions of Mudgee and Orange (but don’t worry, there’s a BWS within walking distance of the clinic for wine ‘emergencies’).

Accommodation and car provided. People from all over flock to Lithgow and the Blue Mountains to spend their holidays here, so why not be one of the lucky ones and come, and visit us for awhile.
